Tenjin Matsuri is the festival held at Tenmangu in a various part of Japan. It’s performed around July 25 in a festival day for Sugawarano Michizane’s anniversary of death of a deity. It’s said to be one of three grand festivals of Japan as well as Gion Matsuri in Kyoto and Kanda Matsuri in Tokyo. One of Osaka three big summer festivals as well as Ikudama summer festivals in Ikukunidama-jina and Sumiyoshi festivals in Sumiyoshi-taisha.
Tenjin Matsuri is performed centering on Osaka Tenmangu in Tenma in Osaka-shi. Yoi – miya is performed on July 24 every year, and Hon – miya will be performed next July 25. In particular, Funatogyo many ships come and go in Okawa is performed at night in Hongu on the 25th. It’s also called “the fire and festival of water” more than the splendid form of the bonfire which suits Okawa, the paper lantern light and the fireworks. A Shinto ritual of other Hokonaga-shinji and Rikutogyo is performed.
